Satisfaction with Favor

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, July 7, 2022

Today’s Text: Psalm 90:13-17

Key Verse: Psalm 90:17 (ESV): “Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,

and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!”

We cannot begin to ask why we need God’s favor in our lives? There is probably no living human who is not aware of their need and/or use for favor. Perhaps, what people need to know is how to attract, receive and enjoy God’s favor in their lives. The text before us today helps us understand the plan of God to favor us and how we may attract it in our lives. Indeed the Bible is filled with numerous stories that give us insight into what is favored by God and what is condemned.

The first light for our path in finding favor from God that this text gives is desire.

From this psalm (possibly the oldest of all), we feel the heartbeat of Moses. Indeed, it has been titled “A prayer of Moses, the man of God.” The tone of this prayer suggests the deepest desire of a man that understands how to tap the best from God. While we live in a generation in which people hustle for silver, gold and fame and power, the deepest desire of a man who would be favored by God is: “Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish Thou the work of our hands upon us.”

There is the place for labor. People labor. But only God establishes the works of men’s hands. A second secret is: our desire must be voiced in total dependence on the Eternal. It is only a sincere cry for help that breathes favor upon our labor. And life is not worth living unless God’s favor is upon us. Therefore, there should never be a time we don’t trust God for help. Whether it is joy or sorrow, life must always send us before our ever loving God.

Quote for the Day: “Life’s ups and downs are our two necessary wings by which our eager souls fly to seek God’s help." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, hear my prayer I pray. Look upon me with favor and shower me with your blessings. You who gives good things, merciful and kind. Grant me your grace, show me your love, in Jesus' name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
