Seeing People Through the Eyes of Jesus (Part 1)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, May 21, 2020

Today’s Text: Mark 8:22-25

Key Verse: Mark 8:24 (ASV): And he looked up, and said, I see men; for I behold them as trees, walking.

It’s so very important we begin to think about how we see people. The way we see other men determines, to a very great extent, how we deal with them. God’s word tells us that Jesus is the light of the world. Those who come to Him have light in their hearts, and darkness gives way in everything including the way we see other men.

When we come to Christ, nothing can ever remain the same — the way we see and understand God would change. The manner we see self is fixed. And of course, the way we see and treat others become completely different. Having been led to Christ, and despite being touched by Him, the man in today’s text, like many of us, still needed a second touch of the Master.

After encountering Jesus, our sight or perception of men needs to be like Christ’s — normal, clearer and better. But unfortunately, some of us still see men likes trees walking. No! Men are not trees! They have feelings and dignity. And of course, trees do not walk. If you’re like that: seeing others and berating them, discriminating against them or handling them as if, like trees, they have no feeling you too would need a second touch.

Quote for the Day: "The first impression of the natural man is fractured by sin. He is unable to see self or others correctly except he has Christ’s second touch.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, touch me and touch again and again until every shade of darkness in me gives way to the light of your eternal glory, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
