Seeing People Through the Eyes of Jesus (Part 9)

Writer: Dr. Simon OlatunjiDr. Simon Olatunji

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, May 29, 2020

Today’s Text: John 8:1-11

Key Verse: John 8:5 (ESV): “Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?”

On our journey of seeing people through the eyes of Jesus, it will do us good to learn as much as we can of/from how to see or not to see like Him. Today we shall consider what it is to see them through the eyes of the Teachers of the Law during Christ’s days. They are so called because they are considered the expatriates of Levitical or Mosaic laws. The Jews hold them in high esteem and look up to them as judges and interpreters of holy things. Supposedly, in their office, they set a woman before Jesus who had been caught in the very act of adultery. They surrounded her and condemned her to death.

There are many people today who are perceived as spiritual men; but who, like these Teachers of the Law, are nowhere in their place of high esteem. Yes, they are robed with the titles, but robbed of the character — honorables of/by men; dishonorable in spiritual standing. Such men are nothing but stumbling blocks and snares to the work of grace — they are self made detectives of others whereas indifferent to their own personal deficiencies. They see people from a legalistic perspective. They people as unfitting for grace. They are shortsighted and cannot see beyond the logical interjection or connective, “now.” See like Jesus: See eternity in every soul. Be like Him: don’t be quick to judge. Listen to Him: judge yourself before you judge others. Obey His commands: drop your rocks.

Quote for the Day: "Often, people mount up the offense of accusations against others as a stylish defense of their own odious wrong.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to see others in the spirit of Christlike love and eternity, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
