Today’s Text: Ecclesiastes 10:2-15
Key Verse: Ecclesiastes 10:10 (ESV): “If the iron is blunt, and one does not sharpen the edge, he must use more strength, but wisdom helps one to succeed.”

We live in an all-new generation — an age in which everyone and everything is fast-paced and different. The only things that are basically and essentially the same are the spiritual realities of self, the enemy called flesh, the seed of sin, and the presence of evil. As such, we cannot but pay attention to the preacher’s warning in today’s scripture. We don’t want to be at the risk of cutting an old oak with a blunt ax. We don’t want to exert more strength, throw more strokes than necessary while the oak still remains standing tall. It is important for all of us to sharpen our spiritual life. The age has enough to crowd our lives with endless activities and busyness that blunt our spiritual sharpness. We must be deliberate about returning and refueling daily through praying and soaking our spirit in the word of God.
For us not to lose the edge, and balance amid today’s hectic pace, we must cultivate spiritual sharpening. No Christian can live healthy if he fails in this regard. We must take time out in daily spiritual exercise. Like a wise and productive farmer must continue to upgrade, replace, repair, clean, and sharpen his implements; Christians must pay attention to servicing their spiritual life. Perhaps, the story of two woodchoppers might help: one worked very hard, stopping only for a brief lunch break. The other had a leisurely lunch break and took several rests during the day. In the end, everyone was surprised to find that the one who took more rests had chopped substantially more wood than the hard worker. The difference is that the hard worker needed more hard work and strength to achieve little it nothing because his ax was blunt. While the easy achiever was always sharpening his ax during each time he sat down to rest.
Quote for the Day: “Whatever we do: whether in excelling and winning in our Christian race; or doing exploits for God, we must always sharpen our spirit being.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, my prayer is that You will make me a threshing sledge, new and sharp, with many teeth. So that You can use me to thresh the mountains and crush them, and reduce the hills to chaff for Your glorious Kingdom — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
