Shouts of Joy

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Wednesday, June 24, 2026

Today’s Text: Psalm 126:1–6

Key Verse: Psalm 126:2 (ESV) — “Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’”

This text is a song of restoration, sung by a people who had known sorrow, exile, and the deep ache of waiting. Psalm 126 remembers the moment God turned their captivity and made joy rise again where tears had ruled for too long. The phrase “shouts of joy” is not shallow excitement; it is the overflowing response of a people who have seen the Lord restore what was lost and prove that sorrow does not get the final word.

Israel is looking back on a mighty act of God and confessing that the return from captivity was not their achievement but His mercy. They were like dreamers because the restoration was so overwhelming that it felt almost unbelievable. When God restores His people, joy becomes public, unmistakable, and contagious, so that even the nations can say, “The Lord has done great things for them.” This is the power of divine intervention: it turns private grief into public praise.

Shouts of joy are often born when God reverses what pain tried to finalize. The believer may pass through tears, delay, and waiting, but the Lord is able to plant joy in the place of mourning. Joy in Scripture is not denial of pain; it is the celebration of God’s faithfulness after pain. And when He restores, He does not restore quietly alone—He fills the mouth with testimony and the heart with songs.

Action Steps: Today, remember the places where God has already turned sorrow into joy in your life. Thank Him for every restoration, every answered prayer, and every testimony that only His hand could produce. Refuse the voice of despair and choose gratitude as your language. Let your rejoicing become a witness that the Lord still does great things for His people.

Quote for the Day: “When God turns your captivity, He does not only restore your life; He also restores your song.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequotes)

Let Us Pray: Lord, thank You for being the God who turns sorrow into joy and captivity into testimony. Restore every place in my life where tears have lingered, and fill my mouth with shouts of joy. Let Your faithfulness silence every fear and let Your mercy become my song. Teach me to rejoice in You with a grateful heart and a living testimony. In Jesus’ most glorious name. Amen.
