Sincere Nations’ Advocates Wanted

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, June 14, 2022

Today’s Text: Daniel 9: 1-21

Key Verse: Daniel 9:8 (ESV): “To us, O Lord, belongs open shame, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you.”

When the watchmen at the gates are drunk and asleep, cities are left to incessant ruins and attacks. This is the unfortunate situation nations of the world have found themselves today. God had placed watchmen on the walls of each nation: to neither sleep nor slumber; nor hold their peace, and to raise Daniel-like deep sense of advocacy for their lands before God. Unfortunately, as goes the world, so goes the church. But we can learn from the way Daniel reckoned the seventy years of exile of his people. We can learn from his reaction before the Lord. We can let these texts speak to our situation today. Perhaps, what we all need is not another social media propaganda, or joke as most of our folks are doing. They rather turn our worst moments of pain and loss into comics and riddles for selfish gain and followership.

Brethren, what we need is a deep sense of, and/or a clear sight of sin. Politicians have failed, clergies have not been God’s voice; and religious institutions are playing the ostrich when we should all lie low before God, and confess that we have sinned. We should repent for being ungrateful for all the favor we have received. We found ourselves in this messy situation because we fail to bring forth fruit proportionate to God’s providence. When we needed God, we pretended we don’t. When we go astray, we fail to turn back. When we need to be on our upper rooms praying, we are all in supper rooms dining and wining. We blush at sin, and blame everything else, or everyone else for our own failures. Oh, where are God’s Daniels that will repent before God for all these atrocities and evil. These are days of genuine repentance, friends! Let us all bow on our knees and lean our bowed heads upon the loving bosom of Jesus Christ.

Quote for the Day: “God loathes sins but admires penitent and repentant sinners. They are candidates of His grace, mercies and pardon." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, we humble ourselves before You, to whom we have sinned. You who makes all things new and brings beauty from ashes. Please forgive our sins, bind up our broken heart, proclaim freedom over our nations, and deliver us from my darkness — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
