Today’s Text: Revelation 3:14-22
Key Verse: Revelation 3:17 (NIV): “You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked."

Today’s meditation is a sequel to yesterday’s. And a great way to begin is to call to mind the debut novel by Ghanaian writer, Ayi Kwei Armah, Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born. The book depicts the life of an unnamed man—a parable of humanity—who struggles to reconcile himself to life in the confused social order in which he finds himself. If we let it, society consciously or unconsciously mars the natural beauty of creation in us and lures us into its destructive filths; forcing us to exchange true glory for corruptible ones. The bane of human society has always been the pursuit of wrong things in life. We’d flaunt wealth and glory though we rot in spiritual poverty. Our quest and obsession for material beauty is a betrayal of God’s true blessing and glory in our lives. That is why our society continues to languish in pain, penury, social inequality, injustices, political instability, and economic sabotage despite all our resources and wealth.
Today’s text reveals the hypocritical emphasis of our pitiable world, which thinks good and beauty are outward alone. This thinking, unfortunately, only reveals wretchedness and spiritual rejection. The risen Lord would rather reject the Laodiceans for being in the tepid state in which their false self-satisfaction has brought self-deception and self-deception has brought self-destruction upon them. We must never let being rich in worldly goods lead us to a quiet complacent life that forsakes God’s true glory, or that puffs up in vain outer glory or claims. Are you rich in worldly goods, puffed by your intellectual wealth, complicit in sin, driven by vain philosophy, complacent in a poor spiritual state, and living in hypocrisy and self-deception? This text is a caution to you. It is time you yield the counsel of the risen Lord, to buy of Him gold tried in the fire, so that you may be truly inwardly rich; and be clothed, and that the shame of your nakedness does not appear.
Quote for the Day: “Righteousness, fervent zeal, joy in the Holy Spirit, devout spirit, peaceful living, and sacrificing love are believers' shreds of evidence of faith, not any outward glow and pomp.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to know the blessing of flourishing in your love. Teach me to be sober-minded and dreadful of pride — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
