Today’s Text: Ephesians 6:10-18
Key Verse: Ephesians 6:13 (ESV): “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”
One of today’s most pertinent questions perhaps is: How can a Christian find the balance between fighting to stand and trusting in God to aid him? How can we stand strong despite all the odd things going on around us? Especially considering how we are engaged in daily battles with Satan, an unseen spiritual enemy that seeks to shift our footings and supplant our standing in Christ. Just how do we maintain a stand when trials keep hitting and are brought constantly into doubting our strength and stand? Don’t we sometimes wonder why God allows all the things that seek to shift us?
Friends, this scripture focuses our attention on the divine armory that is ours in Christ Jesus. We are not to focus on the battles and oppositions. Our spiritual defense is sure when we ensure our weapons of warfare are not compromised. Because we are serving the Lord does not automatically keep us from attacks. Indeed, it exposes us to them because the devil is angry that we chose to serve God. He will slander, persecute, attack us, our families, works, and lives.
Yes, the devil and his cohorts work overtime to bring us down our feet. Hence, the military metaphor in the text is brought before us to awaken each believer’s consciousness of the battles. And to strengthen our determination to stand despite all. This text is a call to be ready for times of special assaults from evil. We must not take the stern reality lightly. We must never lose sight of the fact that Christian life itself is warfare. And lastly, we must remain confident that in that warfare, we have all it takes through Christ to stand strong in victory.
Quote for the Day: “The main point of Christian warfare exhortation is simple: victory is not consistent with how many, or much, prayer mountains or vigils we can keep; but how armed against the enemy we are.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, our redeemer, protector, and defender, strengthen our minds by your gracious presence. Watch over our paths and guide us by your word against all hidden snares — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
