Today’s Text: Ephesians 6:10-18

Key Verse: Ephesians 6:11 (ESV): “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

We are approaching the climax of this devotional series, and the theme of standing remains a key aspect of the Christians’ spiritual warfare that continues to reoccur in the text. Indeed, the apostle repeats the word “stand” in verses 11, 13, and 14 to strengthen our appreciation for its importance. He was so deliberate in his choice of words that he used the same root word in another way to depict how we defeat the devil by standing. The word “resist” in verse 13 comes from a Greek compound word from the same root, “to stand.” Brethren, to resist the devil, you must be able to stand against him. This is a military idea of holding on to a position that lunches a decisive attack against an enemy. Yesterday, our world experienced Russian President, Vladimir Putin’s unfortunate attack against Ukraine. This is so unbecoming but he seems to maintain his stand and the rest of the world must not take him for granted.

In warfare, to stand depicts the military courage to hold your ground because of your allegiance to your King regardless of the strength of your enemies. Christians do not flee the battlefield, they stand. He risks a gruesome fall that flees because his back is never armored. In the Old Testament, Shammah the son of Agee depicts what standing firm in battle means. Others fled from the Philistines, but he took his stand and defended Israel’s lentil-filled plot; and through his singular allegiance and stand, the Lord gave a great victory to Israel. Yes, victory belongs to God, but what belongs to believers is the courage to stand. By this, we rely on His strength and power that mightily work within us. Are you facing any battle today, please know that you're neither alone nor defenseless. Many of us are in the battle with you, and God is the One who fights on our behalf. He constantly shields, protects and strengthens those who maintain their stand in Him.

Quote for the Day: “The best, no, the only strategy to withstand the devil is to stand firm in Christ.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me wisdom and discernment to recognize the schemes of the enemy in my life; and give me the courage to stay alert and stand strong against his work — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
