Today’s Text: Isaiah 43:14-21
Key Verse: Isaiah 43:19 (ESV): “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

Part of immediate marks of famine are the lands are perched, dry, and wasted. It was part of the strategies of ancient captors to cut off water and food sources of target lands and nations so as to impose famine and drought on the people, to weaken, and force them into lack, hunger and dependence. This strategy worked for Syrians and Babylonians in their conquests of the Ancient Near East—the then known Bible world. But part of God’s promise to His people is to reverse any cause of starvation and hardship imposed upon them by their enemies. He promised to create a pathway of escape in the wilderness and provide them streams in the desert. These image the fact that God blesses His people in need. He supplies their needs, strengthens them in their frailty, and defends them against their enemies.
Brethren , God is putting these imageries before us today to encourage us by reminding us of Israel’s deliverance from Babylon and their prior exodus from Egypt. The same God that made the way through the sea, and gave His people an easy path through the mighty waters — the promise keeping God — is the same speaking to us today. We can trust His promise that He will do a new thing by making a way for us in the wilderness, and causing streams in the desert. He is able to provide water in the wilderness, and make rivers in the desert. Folks, no matter what we are passing through today, God is much more than able to do the same for us, His chosen people, than He ever did in the past. Yes, our lands are so dry, perched and wasted; but God is able to reverse all circumstances so that we who are formed for Him will declare His praise.
Quote for the Day: “In Jesus, we are inheritors of a much better promise: the gift of water that becomes in us a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, You are the living water that we need every day. Through You, we have eternal life. Your presence in/with us assures us true redemption and refreshing. Help us O Lord, for without You, our lives are dry and barren. Give us O Lord, Your spring of living water — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
