Strength in Weakness

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, February 13, 2023

Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 12:7-11

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV): “But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

If this text were to be taken as the manifesto or autobiography of Apostle Paul, then it suffices to show that he is a perfect example of a man of like passion as we are. It teaches us that we are all caught in a mutual struggle of/against the weaknesses of the Adamic nature. But it also teaches us that through the power of prayer, we find strength, and are able to tap into the most blessed strength available to anyone on earth.

Therefore, in case you are looking for an insight into how you may find strength in your life journey — a secret of strength in weaknesses — or you are looking for ways to lighten your burdens, diminish the weights of struggles against the flesh, and find increasing strength of the Lord; Paul says, chill, I’ve been there! Today’s scripture presents us the opportunity to peep into Paul’s God-given way of dealing with most dreaded weakness of his life. First, like the apostle, we must come in open confession of the weakness — that’s how God comes into open manifestation of His help to us. But no way! Paul’s way is so unlike us. I think we all missed it there!

Today, we all almost live a lie. We prefer to pretend an incredibly high standards of a near perfect life — spiritually or physically. We hate to let others learn about our failures or shortcomings. We’d rather play the ostrich and sweep our weaknesses under the carpet. We die within; yet we put on a façade of strength, which we are never able to uphold. That explains why the several major and severe shipwrecks of our generation! Friends, it is high time we learn how to live with the awareness that apart from the power of God, we are nothing. It is that power that perfects our weaknesses, and allows us to do things we could never have been able to do on our own.

Let us all stop pretending strong. Let us not play superhuman or semi-divine anymore. Rather, like Paul, we can learn the humility that our much needed strength in Christ comes when we come into humble realization and confession of our weaknesses. Those low or lonely moments can be frustrating, awful and demeaning to us; but they are opportunities for God to give us strength.

Quote for the Day: “Weaknesses give us opportunities to humble ourselves. They teach us to empty ourselves before God, and trust Him to show up for us, and strengthen us.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: My Dear Lord, and Savior, please work through my weakness to change me. Help me to glorify You in my weakness, looking away from myself and to the wonders of your amazing love through Christ. Grant me gospel joy, even in the midst of my personal struggle — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
