Strength to Do the Impossible

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, June 25, 2021

Today’s Text: Philippians 4:10-20

Key Verse: Philippians 4:13f (NKJV): “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Everyone needs some strength each moment and every day. Yes, we all do whether we feel weak, or not. But as we take deep thoughts on this admonition of Paul, we may be encouraged that our strength comes from the Lord during those moments of weakness. Apostle Paul's word here is a charge that we must never be deceived by our feelings of disability. We should not undermine the power at work in us despite any situation or challenge. Today's text is a call to look beyond or outside of ourselves; set Christ before us as our strengthened, and our weaknesses, shortcomings, inability, or disability shall turn to strength.

A story was told of a Mexican artist that lost his right hand while working on a statue; but who refused to give up his work. What he did was not as simple. He trained his left hand to carve, and at the end, he finished his beautiful masterpiece and titled it 'Despite.' My friend, you can do incredible things despite your background. You can turn your story into glory through the strength of Jesus Christ. Great possessions, soundness of your mind and body, rich biological or cultural background, great inheritance, and outstanding education and not any guarantee for success. Only the strength of the Lord makes us strong and empowers us for exploits. As believers in Christ, our orientation is always: “not by might, nor by power; but by my Spirit. Says the Lord.”

Therefore, do you feel a sense of loss right now? Are you limited by a feeling of poverty or a handicap? Be strengthened in this scriptural pump of courage. No problem is too big or small that God cannot solve. Ordinarily and originally, God wires the human spirit to overcome all obstacles, and you are even more blessed in Christ. By the power of God through Christ, you can do all things. We can do all things following the His example and walking in His pathway of duty. We can do all things because Jesus supplies us with great power. We can do all things through His constraining love, and lively faith in Him. We can do all things when we abide in Him, who is our true source and fountain of strength.

Quote for the Day: “Humanity has shown and wielded incredible strength; its purest and surest source of strength is not his own, it is the strength that comes from God." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me strength when I am weak, love when I feel forsaken, courage when I am afraid, wisdom when I feel foolish, comfort when I am alone, hope when I feel rejected, and peace when I am in turmoil, in Jesus' name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
