Today’s Text: 1 Peter 2:1-12
Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:9 (ESV): “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
A forester found a young eagle who had fallen out of his nest. He took it home and raised it in his yard where it, though is king of all birds, soon learned to eat and behave like the hens. Since it was confined to live in the barnyard with hens; feed and trained to be a hen, it never learned to fly, and never realized it’s identity. Though it still has the heart of an eagle, it completely lost the mind of the eagle, and therefore was no longer worthy to be called an eagle. Often, people mocked him by tossing him around.
A naturalist took the eagle to the roof of the house and urged him. “You are an eagle.” He said. “Spread your wings and fly.” But he fearfully flip-flopped back to the hens’ barn. Finally the naturalist took the eagle out of the barnyard to a high mountain. There, he held the eagle as high as possible shouting to him, “You are an eagle. At the feeling of the wind, the bird felt a natural nudge—an awakening of his identity, and slowly stretched his wings, and soared away with a triumphal cry.
Are you in any way like that hen-eagle? Are you living your Christians life with a completely lost or forgotten identity. crowing about like ordinary men? God want you to revise your consciousness of who you are. He wants you to regain your understanding of who are chosen to be and who chose you? You have the heart of royal priesthood, but living like a finicky. God wants you to know that you are His holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim His excellencies on earth. You don’t belong to the ground. Rise from the dust. Spread forth your wings and soar.
Quote for the Day: “To be yourself, you’ve got to wear no masks to be accepted and liked. To take your place, you got to step out.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear LORD, I thank You for my uniqueness and that I am made in Your image. That You for the deep things in Your plan for me. I choose to believe the truth about how You see me. I thank You that I can hope in the future and believe in the good destiny that You have for me — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
