Today’s Text: Philippians 4:2-9
Key Verses: Philippians 4:6 (ESV): “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
It is so refreshing to know how our prayers touch the heart of our loving Heavenly Father! Yes, so rewarding to know that He hears us and meets all needs. Hutson Taylor shared an amazing experience of how God answered his prayers on his way to China when his ship lost its sail due to lack of wind. The Sea current carried them toward cannibals’ island—so close they could see them building fires on the shore. They had done their best but to no avail. Then he (Taylor) requested that each retire to his cabin, and pray the Lord to send an instant breeze. And at that brief moment of prayer, the answer was coming, The wind did began to blow, and carried them safely past the danger. There is great power in prayer. That power is not in the person praying, but in the God who is being prayed to.
Brethren, since we do not rely on our power and efforts, then why are we so worried and frustrated. It is true that there are enough stressors around that can spark anxiety already; but God is with us to help us if we call on Him. The stressors helps us turn our reliance upon God and not in ourselves. And yes, they give us reasons for thanksgiving in times of pain. When we pray, we begin to experience new grace, strength and courage to go through difficult days and issues victoriously. If Paul had had no dark days, but has been a prosperous man all the way, who had no troubling issues—then, his counsel would be futile and useless to us. But at the time he wrote those words, he had suffered so much imprisonment and pain, was also awaiting trial. He could have been anxious, but, he chose to soar on the thankful spirit produced by prayer.
Quote for the Day: “Prayer calms our fears and gives new strength that casts away fear. When we pray, anxieties melt into incredible outburst of thanks." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please teach me how to align my faith in You, trusting you in every difficult time. Help me to seek Your face during hard times: even when doing so is difficult — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
