Today’s Text: Exodus 7:8-12
Key Verse: Exodus 7:12 (NIV): “Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs.”
Each day, everyone of us is faced with powerful struggle with tangible immaterial forces of wickedness in all spheres. Yes, immaterial by the fact that they are spiritual, and not physical. Though, sometimes, we are deceived to think that the word "immaterial" means unimportant. This thinking gives evidence to our weak and earthly-mindedness. But the word of God is so clear about the fact that the spiritual world is actually more real than the physical world. Spiritual world is actually the real world; and as such, spiritual enemies are more real enemies to fight than the physical ones.
If you read the narrative of today's text and took it from carnal vantage; then you probably fail to see Pharaoh in his spiritual hierarchy of influence; and Aaron’s and Moses’ experience of his (Pharaoh's) astrologers and magician as a clear case of spiritual attack. They represent what St. Paul means by “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against a spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph 6:12) In the same way, we are faced daily with forces that seek to gain upperhand in our lives; who are in daily contention with us. Unfortunately, many are unaware of what took place on the night that Aaron casted down his staff, and it swallowed those of the wise men and sorcerers and magicians of Egypt. By that singular event, they overthrew and brought all the forces that hold the sky, waters, fields, storms, and families of Egypt under subjection.
Dear child of God, our Lord has swallowed death in victory. He has trampled all powers in heaven and earth. The one who is in you is greater than all the powers in the world. No matter how hardened that Pharaoh in your life is; he will surely be brought down before you because he already lost the battle. Why? He is fighting through swallowed spiritual forces.
Quote for the Day: “No credentials are needed to prove God's credibility. His power over all things us enough evidence of His glory and might.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: I decree and declare that all powers of the enemy contending against me and God's plan in my life be swallowed, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
