Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, February 13, 2021
Today’s Text: Matthew 5:33-37
Key Verses: Matthew 5:37 (ESV) — “Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.“

Have you ever paused to think about the fact that God’s eternal story of redemption is one of fulfilling the promise made since the Fall of man? Our God is a promise keeper. Deuteronomy 7:9 calls us to “Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. “ This same God wants us to be like Him. Therefore, as we start out this beautiful Saturday morning, let us think about the many ways we make promises with our words, which we do not always mean to follow through. Let us ask ourselves questions as to why Christians also have their Marriage vows broken; why our well meaning Business deals go sour; .why good alliances and contracts end up in court; and why two good jolly friends and brethren turn into the worst of irreparable enemies.
Making promises before God and man has been part of human life and history from time immemorial. Israelites made Nazarite vow and lived up to it by a solemn dedication of life and time to pursue God wholeheartedly. Bible patriarchs were not men who played around with their promises to follow God. The God we serve also makes good all daily promises to all who love Him even as to all who hate Him. He is forever faithful even though or when we are faithless.
How good would it be if we take deeper thoughts on our promises. We all get indignant when others don't live up to their words to us, don't we? Shouldn't the feeling we get from that make us also to begin to take the promises we make more seriously? Matter of fact, we don't actually necessarily need some of the promises we make in the first place. In the word of God before us today, Jesus tells us to simply let our "yes" be yes, and our "no" be no. We do not need those extra oath taking we do at all, because, in the words of Christ, "anything beyond this comes from the evil one” As people who represent the God who takes His promises very seriously, and honors His word more than His name, let us all be willing to say only what we mean to do, and always seek to do what we say we’d do.
Quote for the Day: ”It is better not to vow at all than to do so with hidden intention of keeping back from our word.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, thank you for being steadfast in your love and faithfulness. Help me too Lord to serve you with all my heart, my truth, my all; delighting with You in Your nature of faithfulness, in Jesus name. Amen.
I wish you a fabulous Saturday with all my love and prayers,
