Take Me to Bethel (Part 2)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, August 28, 2022

Today’s Text: Genesis 28:10-22

Key Verse: Genesis 28:16–17 (NLT): “Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!” 17 But he was also afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!””

There is so much to learn from Jacob’s encounter at Bethel. It is so easy to get swallowed by all the difficulties of life that we forget, ignore or get unconscious of the presence of God in our lives. Perhaps that’s one of the spiritual losses of a man who tries to obtain God’s blessings by himself rather than await God's time. The mystery of God’s choice of us is difficult to understand because the mystery of “Jacob have I loved” remains in the secret of God’s election. But one thing is certain, there is a time in our lives that the same providential hand brings us to the point where God sets eternity in our heart.

Indeed, today, most people will be faced with such golden moment of opportunities as millions of believers gather in the presence of Jesus today, across the world, to worship Him. While no one can fathom exactly what God is doing at any given moment; but when He brings us to the place when we come to our knees, we must learn from what Jacob did. God’s revealed presence gives us the opportunity to align our lives with His redemption purpose. Jacob set up a memorial stone symbolizing his life commitment and made a vow that represents total surrender. Today is a day of worship: do not be blind to the amazing blessing each moment in God’s presence brings. You don’t have to understand exactly what God is doing but get past all your personal clouds and issues into the place where you can respond appropriately to divine manifestation.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, bring me Bethel. Show me Your glory. Let me connect the gateway of drop spiritual revelation — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
