Take Me to Bethel (Part 6)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, September 2, 2022

Today’s Text: Genesis 28:10-22

Key Verse: Genesis 28:13 (NLT): “At the top of the stairway stood the Lord, and he said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants.

We live in an age in which success, or the drive for it, happens to be more important to people than anything else. And this explains why so many, including professing Christians, choose pursuit of money or accomplishments over their relationship with God. It is becoming more and more clear that people now arrogate their good fortunes, success, college degrees, good homes, gainful jobs, millions of followers on social media, etc., to luck or hard work. This is a lie from the devil. Jacob’s dream reveals something that man’s desperate soul must learn to flee only to God because He alone is at the head of any ladder. Only God is able to make a man dwell in safety. He alone gives sleep even when we lie down in the open field—and the only pillow or cushions under our heads is/are stone(s).

This is what God is saying to any Jacob, right now: Your efforts during the coming years will simply end in futility if I am not at the top of your dream’s ladder. Nothing in life really depends on luck. But God is the source of all good things. And through scripture we know that He wants us to succeed in life, and achieve our dreams. Growing living faith in the Lord strengths us to attains His good thoughts for our lives. We can only do all things through Him who gives us strength. When we take delight in the LORD, He gives us the desires of our hearts. Genesis 39:2 and 3 tells us how “the LORD was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. [And] When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD gave him success in everything he did.” So, would you commit whatever you do to the LORD so that He can establish your plans? Would you walk in obedience to Him, and keep His words so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go? Would you desist from a culture built on sole trust on efforts, hard work and luck?  Friends, there is no true success without God’s help. Yes, we are urged to invest our full strength to whatever our hands find to do, but we are charged that all life’s events are subject to God’s sovereignty.

Quote for the Day: “Any dream—good or bad—upon which God is not at the head, is a nightmare.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for being the one who teaches my hands to prosper. Please help me not to be anxious about anything, but give me the strength to trust You in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, presenting my requests to You — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
