Thanksgiving and What the Lepers Teach

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, November 25, 2021

Today’s Text: Luke 17:11-19

Key Verse: Luke 17:16 (NIV): “He fell on his face at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. He was a Samaritan.

Today, being Thanksgiving Holiday across America and all its islands and territories, where families get together in thankfulness for one thing or the other. What can we learn from these few men, sufferers who being desperately isolated could not even come near Jesus. Their situation kept them at a distance. They had to raise their voices and called to Jesus for help. During this thanksgiving, we have a lot to learn from them. We can be thankful that we are not isolated and hindered. We can freely associate and gather around friends and family. We can be thankful that even isolated lepers could cry for help and the Lord heard them; and so He much more hears us when we call.

Those lepers in their isolation got ethnic barriers broken down—for us, by revelation we are better united. During this thanksgiving, we must never let our getting together be of unity of head or mouth; but of heart. It should matter whether we are Jews or Samaritan, or white and black, Jesus already broke down those barriers. We can be thankful that God’s blessings ate not prejudiced—Jesus healed them all. He didn’t heal the Jews and spare the Samaritan. Regardless of how despised or discriminated you are of men; you can be thankful that God is mindful of you. And yes, and sadly, others my frolic away in reckless abandon of gratitude during this season. They may lose sight of the reason for the season while they dine and wine—yes, if you’d appear only one—yes, came back to Jesus and be thankful. If you do, then there’s one more reason for thankfulness you’d find: Our Lord always receives and blessed thankful men.

Quote for the Day: “Thankfulness not only confirms our blessings; but it confers even much deeper and better blessings.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am so thankful for keeping me and those around me safe ... I am so thankful for all of your blessings in my life. I am so thankful for reminding me of how blessed I am. Please teach me never to forget to always be so thankful, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Happy thanksgiving dear friend and family, and God’s blessings upon you all ... with all my love and prayers,
