The Crowd, the Charged, and the Christ

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, February 28, 2020

Today’s Text: John 8:3-11

Key Verses: John 8:11 (ESV): ”No one, Lord," she answered. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Now go and sin no more.”

We have before us today three characters that are worthy of notes — the crowd, the charged and the Christ. The crowd were utterly hypocritical. They made empty profession of reverence for the Law, which they in actual sense disobey. They professed great respect for Christ and addressed him as Master or Lord while in their very hearts they most bitterly hated, betray and revile him. They are enslaved to a life that speak or do one thing but mean another. They are not qualified to judge others but they are self acclaimed judges. They were weighed in the dust and found filthy and unworthy.

The charged was the woman caught in adultery. She was not qualified to be discharged and acquitted. She was ruined by sin and found wanting. But deep down in her condemned heart, she craved and found mercy. The Christ is the only and Holy One qualified to charge and the discharge. Whoever you are in the images and character, if your crave the mercy of Christ today, though all verdicts stand against you, Christ’s mercy will is still available today. He will not condemn you. Only go and sin no more.

Quote for the Day: "All forms of man’s cunning craftiness and cruelty is open before the Lord, with whom we have to do.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, save our world of hypocrisy. Heal our heart of sin and set us free, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
