Today’s Text: 1 Kings 17:1-7

Key Verse: 1 Kings 17:1 (KJV) — Now Elijah the Tishbite, who was among the settlers of Gilead, said to Ahab, "As surely as the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, I stand before Him, and in these years there will be neither dew nor rain except at my word!"

How pleasant will it be if at the mention of a Christian’s name, or at the sight of a believer’s conduct, everyone already knows about the God he represents! Yesterday, we mediated on the fact that a mere mention of Elijah’s name already brings a testimony to his trust in God. Obviously, Elijah know what many Christians need to learn: God does not invest trust and power in any minister who cannot adequately represent Him. The God of Elijah honors men who brings Him before themselves and their world. We learn this from the honor God bequeathed upon Tishbite’s word because of the manner in which he announces himself. "As Jehovah liveth, before whom I stand."

We need to understand scriptural revelation In whole. Throughout scriptures, men God uses push themselves back while they put their God forward. God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. If God will grant attendance to your word, you must come with a humble posture. Elijah’s self introduction is similar to angel Gabriel’s when she announced himself to Zacharias. Have you ever asked yourself why the words of God are more potent in the mouth of some Christians than others? Elijah was not the only prophet during his days; but he was a lone voice. His disposition to God made him enjoy tremendous power in his ministry.

God has put his words in our mouth. He has also given us the keys of the kingdom. We can say to the mountain be moved into the sea and it shall be done. We can lay hands on the sick and they will recover. We can allow a thing on earth and it shall be allowed in heaven. *We can say that there would be rain or there would be no rain and it shall be don according to our words.* But the God of Elijah only honors His words in the mouth of those who honor Him in their heart. Any believer can say those words, but unless they honored and backed by God, such declarations would only be presumptuous, and greeted by rude confusion, inevitable ridicule, and a total failure.

Quote for the Day: “The God of Elijah is still alive today, watching His words to fulfill them. We only need the resurrection of His Elijahs.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, please make me your Elijah in this generation. Make me a living voice for you, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
