Today’s Text: 1 Kings 17:1-7
Key Verses: 1 Kings 17:2, 3 (NIV) — “Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: Leave here, turn eastward, and hide yourself by the Brook Cherith, east of the Jordan."

The God of Elijah is not a spontaneous God. He is thorough and detailed in His ways. He is never in a hurry and never does anything haphazardly. Can you imagine this? Why would God say “go and hide” when Elijah was fully ready to launch out and engage real practical ministerial battle against the ungody reign of Ahab? “Hide?!” Some of us would ask. “God punish the devil!” We would decree and declare. Because in human mentality, hide does not sound like coming from God after such a glorious calling and much preparation for ministry. If it were you and I, chances are: we would begin to bind, loose, and cast. But truth is: God hides His men.
It is true that your calling as a minister is about launching out to the world; but God does not make haste to release us unprepared, untested, and unready. He does not parade unprepared vessels. The urgency of divine assignment is not in the same concept of human timing. What do you do when God sends you to Cherith, and you are like “why;” especially when He hides you in a corner, where there are no people, no ready platforms, and no feel of success at all? Well, we can learn from Elijah. We must never think He is mistaken. We serve the same God as Elijah; He chooses our assignment, our platform for the task, our timing for it, and it is also He who measures what we call success. Not ourselves.
Are you brooding over your Cherith? Are you measuring ministry fulfillment based on activities and platforms? God wants you to remember that your mandate is not manmade. Never think it is the enemy that is blocking your opportunity to pursue your calling. It may be that God puts you in Cherith. God hid Elijah. He will be used mightily for the whole.nations, but for about 3 years, he will have no congregation except a brook, a crowd of salvage birds, a widow and her son. I believe God allowed all these so that we may learn that the God of Elijah hides His men.
Quote for the Day: “Since our mandate is not manmade; we must also learn to submit to divine moderation and method.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Lord, please take me to where you make Your men. Hide me in your Cherith. Make me ready for your glorious service, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
