The God that Promotes

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, September 5, 2021

Today’s Text: Psalm 75:1-10

Key Verse: Psalm 75:7 (ESV): “But it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another.”

We all dream of doing great things for God's Kingdom. We are willing to go to the next level in the special area of our calling and commitment. We love to experience divine promotion and enjoy God's grace at large. But where and how do these things happen? How do we achieve spiritual or physical promotion? Does promotion come to us by effort? As followers of Christ, how do we see more of Him in our daily lives? This meditation reminds us that our journey from glory to glory as believers in Christ is not a function of how much effort we learn or know how to put. I am not saying that a believer that is desirous for more of God in his life should just sit back and hope. No. There is always a place for striving. There is a place for eagerness and faithfulness. There is a place for trials and endurance. There is a place for sacrifice and prayers.

However, we must remember Ecclesiastes 9:11’s admonition that the race is not given to the swift or to the strong. We must run our race. We must strive to be swift and of course, stay strong in God's grace; but we must recognize that promotion comes from God not because of what we have done. That is is the place we connect the humility that distinguishes us. That is where God resists some people despite their efforts and gives grace to others. Today, the Psalmist reminds us that God judges the actions of our hearts. And of course, He alone is the righteous judge. He alone knows all about us and sees the innermost part of our being. He does not see as we see; we look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.

Quote for the Day: “Physical things speak to the spiritual. Heart conditions do not determine the physical life any more than they determine the spiritual.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please grant me, a heart that loves you, a spirit that seeks you, and the wisdom to find you, and conduct myself in a way that is pleasing unto you, in Jesus' name. Amen.

I welcome you to a brand new week. Please join our midweek services on Wednesday: Scripture Pasture by 7.00 pm CST; and Friday: Power Contact by 7.00 pm CST. Come worship with us.
