The Good Fight

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, October 11, 2022

Today’s Text: 1 Timothy 6:11-16

Key Verse: 1 Timothy 6:12 (NLT): “Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.”

One of the clearest scriptural descriptions of the Christian’s way to victory is here described by the Apostle. He wanted the church to be aware of unnecessary struggles in our lives versus the real and needed struggle. This call is to help soldiers in Christ become wary of fighting for (or focusing) the wrong things of life such as greed for wealth, and all kinds of life’s lustful pursuit. Instead, we are to fight to lay hold on the things that yield eternal life.

When we struggle and fight for earthly perishing treasure, we simply wound our hearts with raised blood pressures, anxieties, perils, and damnation—that’s clearly not a good fight. It’s already a losing fight. But when, as God’s people, we struggle for things pertaining to faith, we are in a struggle in which nothing of this world—the flesh, the devil, fame, principalities, powers, and false teachings, with their seduction—is able to take eternal life from us.

This is a call to realize that our lives as Christians is a daily active conscious effort against evil. That’s the good cause to which we have been called. And, it is a never losing fight. We must never be slack because we have a good fight of faith under a good Captain of our salvation, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We are also assured of a good result, which is eternal life through Christ.

Prayer: Dear Lord, please make me Your warrior against evil, Strengthen me to fight the good fight. Give me grace to finish the race and keep the faith — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
