The Parable of the Rock

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, August 1, 2022

Today’s Text: Matthew 7:24-27

Key Verse: Matthew 7:24 (LEB): “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

Foundation is very important to the construction and continued existence of any building. In essence, it is the main thing that supports the load of the entire structure so that it does not give way or collapse. It does not matter that a foundation is well-designed, or built by the best engineers in the world; as long as it is not strong and steady enough, the entire structure is at the risk of collapse. Before a house can stand the test of time, it must be situated upon a rock. That is why every good builder looks for the rock and ensure a rocky foundation before the structures are set up.

In this text, our lives are likened spiritually, by Christ, to a structure. He wants us to know that forces of nature will always rare their ugly faces, and seek to wreak dangerous havoc against everyone — whether they are seated on a well-built foundations or not. All natural men face a common force of opposition which try and attack their very foundation — seeking to bring everything good down.

Therefore, Jesus told this parable to help us realize that the only way to stand secure is to build our lives upon Him, the true rock. He is the secret of an enduring life. He is the only sure foundations that keeps us safe during life’s strong winds, and calamities. Only Him upholds our lives when we build life on the firm foundation of repentance and obedience toward Him. In the same way as we ensure that our earthly buildings are careful built on secure foundation so that they can endure, let us also build our spiritual lives, our hopes and eternity upon a sure foundation so that we can endure all trials in this life.

Quote for the Day: “Jesus is the only firm foundation; our only escape from our sagging and shifting lives.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:  Dear Lord, please help me to embrace and apply Your Words to my life — so that my foundation may be unshakable and storm-proof when the howling winds and surging rains of life beat against me — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

I wish you a happy new month with all my Love and Prayers,
