Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednessday, April 15, 2020
Today’s Text: 2 Samuel 24:15-25
Key Verse: 2 Samuel 24:15 (BIV): So the LORD sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the time appointed...”
It’s so easy for people to sin against God in their time of peace and prosperity. Yes, it’s so easy for material or economic prosperity to lead mankind to spiritual emptiness and lostness. That was the case with Israel; and so it is with us. David's rule was so blessed, and the people dwelt in safety. But in the midst of their happy quiet, they were caught in the web of Isaiah 9:16: “the leader of the people caused them to err, and they that are led of them are destroyed.”
It is not a sin to take a census; but it provoked God’s wrath because 1.) it was done without Divine approval; 2.) the heart behind it was wrong; 3.) it reflects pride and vain-glory; 4.) it leads to non dependence upon God, and 5.) a lack of allegiance due to Him. Thus, God sent pestilence to strike directly at their pride, cripple their economy, reduce their power and thwarted their ambition. But because they repented, the Lord was merciful and the plague stopped. If we too return to God, He will abundantly pardon.
Quote for the Day: "O how well if men know that the Lamb of God is also the Lion of Judah. He wraps His children; but roars at sin.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: O Lord, please remember your mercy and turn your wrath away, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
