Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, April 10, 2020
Today’s Text: John 11:17-27
Key Verse: John 11:25 (NIV): “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”
The idea of resurrection has always been an unclear promise to the Jews long before today’s text. Job had said: "I know that my redeemer liveth, and that…in my flesh shall I see God" (Job 19:25, 26). Daniel said: "Many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt" (Daniel 12:2). But Jesus here affirmed that He is that resurrection and that life.
It is in Christ alone that humanity assuages its sorrows and assures its hopes. It is only in Him that true, abundant and eternal life may be found. This Jesus proved to be true by both raising Lazarus and also rising again from the dead. We can also trust Him to raise us up, who believe in Him, after this world of sin and death. Have you put your trust in Jesus?
Quote for the Day: "In his body, Jesus bore our humiliation; in his death, bought our reconciliation; and in his resurrection, assures our glorification.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me a heart that holds steadfastly on to your word till my faith is rewarded by sight. This I ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
