Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, September 27, 2021
Today’s Text: Psalm 124:1-8
Key Verses: Psalm 124:7 (AMP): “Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.”
Every day, we are surrounded by snares. Things that beset, upset, and reset us. We are all surrounded by wicked men that crouch down to prey on us like fowlers. They set their snare, not for birds and games. They set them for fellow men. Unfortunately, we need not search for such wickedness among the heathens, of course, they are all out there, but why look too far when the secret is out. Our most wicked fowlers are found even among them that are called by my name (Jeremiah 5:26). Holy people who are not moved by soul-saving endeavors. They are not touched by righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Instead, they contemplate mischief and design evil. They disguise themselves as brethren just like fowlers do.
We are not alone. The souls of the psalmist—yes, of old-time prophets, of the apostles, and many of our brethren in the world—have tasted the bitter cup of being snared. Sometimes, like us, they were snared into the subtle lure of sin; and sometimes, into jeopardy and harm. Indeed, only eternity can tell how many of such ensnared souls we meet every day! In biblical images, believers are often likened to birds who are kept and fed without a barn or storehouse. We are like birds in trustful reliance on God. And we are like birds who are continually in open peril of fowlers. But through the love of Christ our Savior, we always find an escape. Each day, the Lord breaks the snare and makes a way of escape for our souls. By the efficacious works of Christ, our souls have escaped the snare of the condemnation of the Law. We are released from the snare of the power of sin. We have escaped the sting of death.
Quote for the Day: “Our Lord Jesus Christ is always at the door of sins’ snare, knocking and tenderly waiting to help any soul, who will escape.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you because by your death you destroyed every trap that has been laid down for me Satan, and his cohorts. May I, dear Lord, continue to rejoice, like the Psalmist, in your saving grace, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
