The Source of Water

Today’s Text: Jeremiah 17:7–8

Key Verse: Jeremiah 17:8 (KJV) — “For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”

Life often brings seasons of dryness—moments when strength feels low, answers seem distant, and circumstances grow harsh. But, on this month of Strength and Flourishing in His Court. God sets before us, the mystery of the rooted life: that not all who face drought wither. The difference is not in the intensity of the heat, but in the depth of the roots. A tree planted by the waters does not fear the drought because its source is unseen, steady, and sure. So it is with the soul anchored in God.

When a life is deeply connected to God through trust, daily communion, and the Word, it draws from a hidden stream that circumstances cannot exhaust. While others are shaken by visible lack, the rooted believer is sustained by invisible supply. This is not denial of difficulty, but dependence on divinity. The tree does not chase the rain; it abides by the river. Likewise, we are not called to chase solutions, but to remain connected to the Source.

The strength of the tree is not in its leaves, but in its roots. In the same way, spiritual resilience is not built in public moments, but in private devotion. Time in Scripture, quiet prayer, and a heart fixed on God form the unseen channels through which life flows. When the heat comes—and it will—the question is not whether we will face drought, but whether we are rooted deeply enough to endure it.

Beloved, this is a day to deepen your roots. Refuse to live on surface-level encounters with God. Let your heart stretch toward Him in trust, your spirit draw daily from His Word, and your life be anchored in His presence. As you remain connected to the Source, you will not dry up in adversity, neither will your fruit fail in difficult seasons. You are sustained, not by what is around you, but by Who is within you.

Action Step: Today, intentionally spend time drawing from the Source. Open your Bible, pray sincerely, and sit quietly in God’s presence. Say, “Lord, root me deeper in You. Let my life draw from Your endless supply, so I will not fear drought nor fail in fruitfulness.” Stay connected, and let your strength be renewed daily.

Let us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, my Source and Sustainer, draw my heart closer to You. Teach me to trust deeply and remain firmly rooted in Your Word and presence. In seasons of dryness, let me draw from Your living waters; in times of heat, let me remain steady and fruitful. Strengthen my inner life, and make me unshaken by outward conditions. In Jesus’s most glorious name, Amen.
