Today’s Text: Psalm 29:1-11
Key Verse: Psalm 29:4 (ESV): “The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.”
The idea that silence means consent is not always true. It is mostly theoretical and impractical. Silence can also mean confusion, conflict, contempt or contest depending on the situation. For instance: the uneasy silence may follow a bitter argument; or a shockwave of silence resulting from a sudden calamity or death of a loved one. Or the devastating feeling that follows divine silence when answers are needed the most. Definitely, there is power in hearing the voice of God. One of the distinguishing marks of the people of Israel was the presence of the thundering voice of God among them. This Psalms tells of the amazing power of the voice of God among His people.
Unfortunately, we are often faced with countless of mundane voices that seek to distract us from hearing the voice of God, and feeling His power in our lives. When we are not sober and our ears are clogged with mundane noises; it becomes harder and harder for us to hear the Lord. Sometimes, those noises do not prevent us from hearing God’s voice; they make us doubt Him. When we make ourselves sensitive to God’s voice regardless of the situation; He perfectly breaks into our silence to reveal His glorious purpose to us.
Quote for the Day: “Be still is God’s greatest word to us.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please speak to me that I may speak, in living echoes of your voice. Help me to hear you and see your works in my life, sharing your word with others so that they too may live — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
