Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, May 11, 2023
Today’s Text: Luke 19: 1-10
Key Verses: Luke 19:6 (ESV): “So he hurried and came down and received him joyfully."

So much about Zacchaeus, but all worth the notices. His was a great example of a man so humble, willing, surrendered and ready to welcome Jesus to his heart. He never went to church but is better than 80% of people who go to church. He was ready to hear Jesus. He took off from his gainful taxing tables to seek Jesus—something so hard for today pound sterling and dollar seeking generation of Christians to do.
Jesus is speaking each day in our churches, in our meetings, daily devotions including social and terrestrial media but most people turn the deaf ears. As for Zacchaeus, no hesitation or delay at all. His was an immediate response. This is a charge for us to adopt that mindset and attitude to Jesus. Unfortunately, many of us cannot confront our past, the prejudices such past bring, the scars of shame, or shame of scars.
Learn from Zacchaeus: when Jesus calls, no better choice than to obey. No man-made religious barrier is strong enough to stop you from acknowledging Jesus as Lord (see verse 8). This is a critical step that makes all the difference between religion and a relationship with God that everyone must take.
Quote for the Day: “Salvation comes by repentance and faith. Anyone who truly repents toward God and comes to Christ by faith becomes a new creature.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I come before you in full awareness and repentance of my sin. Please, forgive me and wash away my sin. Help me to turn from my old life and start a new life — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
