Today’s Text: Luke 1:5-25

Key Verse: Luke 1:6 (NLT): “Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in God’s eyes, careful to obey all of the Lord’s commandments and regulations.”

It is true that only God is indispensable, but no one can omit Elizabeth from the Christmas story as she always draws us closer to the birth of Christ. Snd whereas, the theme of righteous living is becoming a matter of a growing concern among today’s men and women, people of ancient Israel were held to very high note of moral standards. So, in the days of Elizabeth, the word for righteousness covered all the moral laws of the Law, the wisdom writings, and prophets. Today’s text tells us how Elizabeth lived up to expectations as a righteous priest’s wife, the Lord’s ministers, and a fellow yoke-bearer with her husband — a good example she remains today for modern women in God’s vineyard.

Elizabeth’s story teaches us that God always puts the right things and people in our lives just at the right time. And, when he does, it has nothing to do with age. Mary and Elizabeth were in each other’s lives in the most proper time so that they may strengthen each other during a most unbelievable prophetic moments.

Do you ever have any doubts that God always answers his people, provides for his own, and comes through for them? Watch the life of Elizabeth: she was already stricken in age, and may have resigned to destiny with regards to childbearing; but through her comes the unmistakable lesson of faith and hope that nothing is impossible, too late, or too difficult for God to do.

So much to learn from Elizabeth as we draw closer to Christmas each day. Her image comes clearer as a great index finger, pointing us to one more important lesson. We must avoid the sin and game of comparison. When she heard the news of how her cousin, Mary, was graciously favored by God, she was gracious and grateful, not jealous. She rejoiced for/with her. Unfortunately, most believers today engage jealousy motivated propaganda, agenda, programs, and ministries. That’s not the spirit we are given, folks. We should never feel jealous that a blessing bestowed on someone else wasn’t ours. We must rejoice with others even when we wonder why they appear better. We must always remember Elizabeth.

Quote for the Day: “Elizabeth’s appearance at Christmas story teaches us to be content with our blessings and secure in our identity and destiny. God always puts the right things and people in our lives just at the right time.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please inspire my heart to be gracious toward others. Set me free of/from the thoughts od jealousy. Substitute the negativity and cruelty within my heart with Your love and grace — in Jesus Christ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
