Today’s Text: Luke 2:15-21
Key Verse: Luke 2:19 (CSB) — “But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them.”

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed by your own spiritual experience, and you completely feel lost for expression?! Many may not be able to relate with this complex situation; but not Mary. She had to become a precursor of something that is beyond the scope of human beliefs and experience — something somewhat impossible. She could not understand all that the angel had said to her. She has no previous reference point, no example to fall back on and learn from; and no one to rational convince of how or why she could both be a virgin and pregnant at the same time. She passed through all these, yet chose to received God’s word in faith while treasuring God’s counsel in her mind.
Joseph the dreamer boy was also in a different delicate situation. He was going to be a precursor of a possibility: contrary by Jewish norm, he would be strangely placed above all his brethren. He was overwhelmed also; but he could not treasure it in. Like Joseph, many of us are unable to treasure our moments and experience of divine promises. We prematurely let out the cat and carelessly occasion the abortion of divine purpose. Somehow, God’s will would still get done because He is God; but we may have to serve in unchosen dungeon, slavery, and/or prison terms; and, it will then take only God’s mercy to bring us out.
We all need Mary’s kind of heart and wisdom to fully and truly take hold of God’s promises in our life and world. It was too much for her to know that her Child was, in some sense, the Son of God and the hope of Israel. But even worse that she knew that glorious as her Boy is, he would have to suffer to fulfill His destiny of saving the whole world. She knew this dagger would inescapably pierce her heart. But she treasure God’s word in her heart. As events unfold, she weighs the matter from a burdened soul; yet she continued to trust God for the things treasured in her heart. Let us grow up in treasuring God’s word. Let us learn from Mary whom when the shepherds and the Magis from the East visited her, was not a talkative, letting out treasures of divine plans. She knows how to treasure up God’s promises; do you?!
Quote for the Day: “We may possess glorious promises and yet often go through the feeling of déjà vu; yet the thoughts of/on the promises keep the process as glorious as the promise.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, no matter how strange the path or tough the way, please let it be to me according to your word, in Jesus's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
