Trial by Fire

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, July 8, 2022

Today’s Text: 1 Corinthians 3:10-15

Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 3:13 (ESV): “Each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.”

You probably saw the Edward Zeick’s movie titled “Trial by Fire” in which a poor, uneducated heavy metal devotee is convicted of arson-related triple homicide. In which, during his 12 years on death row, an improbable ally, uncovers questionable methods and illogical conclusions in his case and battles with the state to expose suppressed evidences that could save him. In a similar but different pedestal, Christians go through unfair censures everyday. We are subject to hardships, tribulations and persecution each day, and, mostly the reasons and purpose seems uncovered. Also, there are a lot of suppressed truths about us and the way we live — not seen by the church or known to the watching world; but which the apostle says shall all be brought under the revealing test of fire. Paul’s primary assignment here is to strengthen believers, especially to continue to live and work as expected by God considering that whatever we do with each passing moment shall be made manifest at the end. Our lives shall be brought under a bursting rush of light that will reveal all motives, impurities, the kind of spiritual materials we are truly made up of, the life we live, and the doctrines we preach. In the overall, the apostle admonishes us to live in such a way that: before the world and, especially before the judgement seat of Christ, when everything shall finally be uncovered, we shall have no need for shame. That, he says, is trial by fire. Will you be ready?!

Quote for the Day: “Our spiritual journey is like a life construction site; and our character the material built into the project." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for providing me with everything I need to become a wise builder. Lord, help me not to be a foolish builder as I build in my daily walk with You — so that I may stand the test when tried as with fire, in Jesus' name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
