True and Faithful God

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, June 7, 2022

Today’s Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:14-24

Key Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:24 (ESV): “He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.”

Is there any doubt at all that God is faithful? Do situations around us bring this truth into question? What is it in your life or mine strong and desperate enough that it can disparage the truth of God’s faithfulness toward us? I’ll tell you: there’s absolutely nothing! Nothing ever did, can, or will! God’s consistency and immutability throughout all eternity are unquestionable. He is forever true to Himself and His Word, and He is always true to us, His creatures. Friends, we ate reminded today, of the enduring covenanted faithfulness of God. It is so sure and unwavering that it is sufficient to dispel all the darkness of our fears. This is an unflinching reason and justification for our confidence in Him.

To think that God is faithful is not compensation or elevation of His ego. No, it is even not a way to weigh Him on our yardsticks of trustworthiness. This reminder is a reinforcement of our reason to commit our souls to Him more and more, as One who alone merits our trust. We can therefore trust Him whose records are eternally clean of any shadow of turnings. Whatever the problems are, we ate encouraged based on God's trajectory. His promises are as good as His reputation. He never deserts the patriarchs, priests, and prophets. He was with all the apostles. He will not desert us. Calling us out of darkness by the sacrifice of His only begotten Son alone is a sufficient result of His faithfulness. What then will He not do for us?!

Prayer: Dear Lord, I trust You with all my heart, soul, and mind. You are forever faithful to Your promises. I will not be discouraged because I walk in your divine presence — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
