True Joy from the Lord

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, July 25, 2021

Today’s Text: Nehemiah 8:5-12

Key Verse: Nehemiah 8:10 (KJV): “Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

How easy do you think it would be for you to answer this question: “Is the joy of the Lord your strength?!” I can guess your response. And I’m almost too sure it will come without much hesitation. Often, and unfortunately so, religion has a way of prompting us differently than reality. However, before you are jolted into making another hasteful religious response, I’d like you to know that the question is really not as easy to answer. you are not alone. Because, in actual sense, it is. The words look so simple and “Christian, ” but the reality of the assertion seems to be truly elusive and lost in a fog of today's daily life.

Religious legality and plus platitudes put faith confession in our mouths; but what about the deep seated root of doubts and frustration within the fiber of our hearts. But we can truly experience the joy that God gives. He (God) wants us to experience perfect joy in/through Him. Like the people of Israel, we are haunted by images of lost glories, broken relationships, unfulfilled dreams, wounded sports, and lots more — but there is always a moment of which, like Israel, we are brought book to a point of unbelievable restoration — a moment in which we weep for joy when we see true strength show up in the place of out weaknesses. At that point, we can no longer pretend strength. We can only confess that only the joy that comes from the Lord, not from our pride, not from out efforts, not from our savings, that is our strength.

Quote for the Day: “Nothng gives greater joy than the blessed relationship that we have in union with Jesus Christ.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, every good gift is given to us by Your hand. Though we are filled with vanity, You alone are our source of our joy. Please bring us the true joy that comes from You alone, in Jesus' name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
