Today’s Text: Acts 20:17-38
Key Verse: Acts 20:35 (NIV): “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

After great exploit at Miletus, it was time for the Apostle Paul to depart and give his final words on a couple of doctrines and issues. One of the very pertinent points of the apostle’s interest was something he knew was paramount in the mind of Christ — the issue of brotherhood. Far back in the days, each man looked after the wellbeing of others and neighborliness really means helping the weak, looking out for others, and ministering to the needy.
The apostle wanted the kind of love expressed towards him to be an example to today’s Church. We cannot be sure he foresaw the shooting up of a superficial brotherly sympathy coming, or he was just concerned for the future; but, today’s church definitely proves the apostle right in his concern. We all need to understand the importance and blessings of outing forth to bless others.
As we celebrate Boxing Day today, let us meditate on Apostle Paul’s admonition in the light of church history. Let us remember how brethren ministered to the necessity of the poor. Let us remember how churches in the past placed small boxes of alms near the church doors requesting donations to help the poor during Advent—which they then distribute to needy people throughout the community on the day after Christmas. Pertaining to this, the apostle stands with he Lord that it is more blessed when we unbox for others. We actually unbox for more.
Quote for the Day: “In the economy of God, people who scatters or unbox increase all the more, and those who withhold from others result only in want.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please teach us faithfulness in generosity and teach us to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world. May our light so shine before others, in love, in truth, and in action, so that we may glorify your name — in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
Happy Boxing Day with all my Love and Prayers,
