Untold Secret of Rest on Every Side (Part Five)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, May 28, 2021

Today’s Text: 1 Kings 5:1-18

Key Verse: 1 Kings 5:4 (NKJV) — “But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence."

It’s Friday, and a very good day to wrap up a weeklong spiritual journey and get ready for a weekend of new spiritual encounters. We have seen how David nurtured a desire to build a permanent house for God. We see God is more concerned with building a permanent house, a dynasty, a kingdom for him instead. Today, we are going to see the spiritual symbolic mystery behind the whole story. How the building and the rest and Davidic son Solomon all fall within the symbolic archetype for a better and higher dwelling place for God, which the better and higher Son of David represents. For everything written in The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves... (Hebrews 10:1)

The antithesis is hardly expected. But the rest imaged in the text is indeed only consistent with its very closest and most perfect type, which only comes through Jesus Christ, the Son of David. So there are three-dimensional antitypes here: first, the building was a shadow denoting the more perfect Tabernacle and Temple built by Christ. God would allow a temple to be built, but it would not be built by David’s hands, but by David’s son. David and Solomon seem to have been more concerned with building a lavish temple, but Jesus said those who worship God must now do so in spirit and in truth. We are all now that temple. Second, Solomon was a type of Christ, imaging the prince of peace and pointing us to Christ as the one upon whose shoulder the government rests. And the third type is the idea of true peace and rest which God already portrayed is only achievable through His chosen king. Jesus is the untold secret behind all Scriptures. He is the unknown secret of rest on every side. Those who know Him have peace that surpasses all human comprehension. Do you know Him?

Quote for the Day: “No deeper secret of peace could man ever find than Jesus. He is our peace. When Jesus Christ becomes a man’s personal Savior and Lord, a spring of indescribable peace wells up and out from within him." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, please grant me peace of mind and calm my troubled heart. Give me the strength to find and walk the path you've laid out for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Thank you for following us through to the end of this series and have a blessed weekend.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
