Waiting for Time

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Friday, May 23, 2025

Today's Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Key Verse: Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV): "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:"

We all appreciate a beautifully played piece of music, don't we? Just as a skilled musician knows precisely when to play each note for a melody to truly sing, life also has a divinely appointed rhythm and timing. For everything—from personal growth and relationships to career choices and overall well-being—there's a season, a perfect moment for it to unfold. This synchronicity, much like the notes in a song, creates a harmonious and fulfilling life. That's why patience and careful waiting on the Lord are essential.

Unfortunately, impatience and rushing ahead of God's timing can lead to a host of problems. We see increased stress and frustration, difficulties in relationships, and a decline in overall well-being. Daily situations—waiting in line, dealing with delays, or feeling the pressure to "get more done" when it's not the right time—can become overwhelming. The constant push for instant gratification, sometimes fueled by teachings that emphasize immediate results, can heighten anxiety, stress, and a sense of being out of control.

But we can understand and deal with the roots of impatience. Not waiting for the right time can also signal deeper issues like anxiety, fear of missing out (FOMO), or time-blindness. The enemy seeks to exploit our impatience, making us miss the opportunities that divine timing presents. He wants us to focus solely on the desired outcome, making us resent the journey rather than enjoying the process of working towards our goals.

There is consequences in rushing. When we're impatient, our relationships with family, friends, and colleagues suffer. It can manifest as irritability, negativity, and a lack of patience in listening to or supporting others. Constantly rushing or struggling to wait creates distance and strain in our connections. Beyond relationships, impatience can diminish our overall well-being, leading to decreased happiness, satisfaction, and a sense of purpose. It truly is a significant problem with far-reaching consequences. So, why not trust God's timing. Have faith in His perfect timing for all aspects of your life.Embracing God's timing allows us to walk circumspectly, understanding what can lead to poor decision-making and impulsive behaviors. It empowers us to build long-term success and truly enjoy the process of life.

Friends it is blessing when we understand and respect time. Whereas impatience with it leads to impaired and negative relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. It can manifest as irritability, negativity, and a lack of patience in listening to or supporting others. In my ministry experience, I've found out that constantly being in a rush or having a hard time waiting create distance and strain in interpersonal relationships. And, of course, it can also be a symptom of underlying anxiety, fear of missing out, time-blindness, or even other mental health concerns and a decline in overall well-being, including decreased happiness, satisfaction, and a sense of purpose. Impatience with time can be a significant problem with far-reaching consequences.

Action Steps: Don't be in denial. Address the problem. Potentially explore any underlying issues that might be contributing to impatience. Practice mindfulness in your daily life to cultivate patience, especially during moments of waiting. Reflect on areas where you tend to be impatient and pray for God's guidance in developing a more patient spirit. Trust in God's perfect timing for all aspects of your life.

Quote for the Day: "Gardener know the right season for planting and harvesting. We christians too must learn to trust God's timing for every aspect of our lives." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that there is a time for everything. Help us to cultivate patience and to trust in Your perfect timing for our lives. Deliver us from the anxieties of impatience, and grant us peace in waiting on You — in Jesus's most glorious name. Amen.
