Waxing Stronger in Evangelism

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Saturday, January 17, 2026

Texts: Romans 1:8-17

Key Verse: Romans 1:16 (ESV) — “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes…”

Evangelism is not a spiritual gift for a few; it is a shared mandate for all who have tasted the gospel. While we have the charge and the blessing this year to wax very strong through Christ, we must be careful of strength if and when it never reaches the lost because such strength is self-centered and spiritually poisonous. To wax stronger in evangelism is to let the joy of our salvation overflow as a bold and loving witness to others. Evangelism is not forcing religion on people; it is offering life to the dying.

To Apostle Paul, waxing strong in evangelism is about being unapologetically bold and passionate about sharing the Gospel. Paul's heart beats with urgency, as he longs to visit the Romans and impart spiritual gifts to them. He's eager to preach the Gospel, not out of obligation, but out of love for Christ and a deep desire to see others come to faith. This is evangelism that's on fire, fueled by gratitude for the privilege of being a servant of the Gospel.

Paul sets the tone for his letter by establishing his apostolic credentials and expressing his passion for evangelism. In the phrase "I am eager," he conveys a sense of intense longing and desire. He emphasis on being a "debtor" to explain his sense of obligation to preach the Gospel to all, regardless of cultural or social boundaries. That his why he waxes strong in such dynamic, transformative power that brings salvation to all.

If Paul was not ashamed and other apostles bore witness with courage and confidence in the face of opposition, we too must grow in motivation to emulate such boldness in sharing the Good News. By evangelizing, we are expressing our love for God and for souls. The Great Commission is not a suggestion from Jesus; it is a command backed by His authority and presence. Waxing stronger in evangelism this year means seeing every environment as a mission field—your family, workplace, neighborhood, and online spaces. It starts with a burden: “Lord, break my heart for those far from You.”

As God enlarges your compassion, your boldness also grows. To wax stronger in evangelism is to overcome shame and fear, trusting that the gospel itself is God’s power. There are people whose eternal story will change because you opened your mouth. This year, evangelism will require you to initiate conversations, share your testimony, invite people to church or fellowship, and pray intentionally for specific names. These are not mere activities; they are eternal investments.

Be ready to sow, even when you don’t immediately see harvest. When people reject or mock your message, remember that you are sowing seeds God can water later. When you feel inadequate, lean on the Holy Spirit, who gives the right words and timing. Waxing stronger in evangelism means that your circle of concern expands beyond “me and mine” to those still lost.

Action Steps: Today, pause and ask: “Lord, who are three people in my life that do not know You or are far from You?” Write down their names. Begin praying for them daily, and this week, look for an opportunity to share the gospel, your testimony, or an invitation with at least one of them.

Quote for the Day: “Evangelism is love refusing to be silent. As you open your mouth for Jesus, you will wax stronger in boldness and partner with heaven’s joy.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for saving me by Your gospel. Fill my heart with compassion for the lost and my mouth with boldness to speak. Use my words, my life, and my story this year to draw many to Your cross and kingdom. In Your mighty name, Lord Jesus, Amen.
