Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Sunday, January 11, 2026
Texts: John 14:18-24 (ESV)
Key Verse: John 14:21 (ESV) — “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”
Obedience is not a religious chore; it is the overflow of a heart that truly trusts and loves God. In a year of waxing very strong, strength that is not aligned with obedience becomes rebellion. To wax stronger in obedience is to treat God’s instructions not as suggestions but as lifelines. Obedience is not about earning God’s love; it is the fruit of already being loved and chosen. The One who saved you by grace now calls you to walk in the pathway that keeps you under His smile and within His manifested presence.
Obedience is therefore the practical proof of faith in a yielded heart. God’s call to obey His voice is not a threat; it is an invitation into a life of blessing, clarity, and divine companionship. Waxing stronger in obedience this year means allowing God’s Word to overrule your preferences, opinions, and cultural pressures. This begins at the level of small, daily instructions—phone calls you should make, apologies you should render, acts of generosity you should not postpone. As you respond promptly, your sensitivity sharpens.
As your heart grows tender to God’s promptings, your steps will become more precise. To wax stronger in obedience is to treat delay as danger and partial obedience as disobedience. Be ready to cooperate with God in obeying even when you do not fully understand. There are obediences that will close old doors of bondage and open new doors of favor. This year, obedience will require practical choices: forgiving those who hurt you, stepping into assignments that intimidate you, and staying where He plants you until He moves you. These are not mechanical acts; they are love responses to a Lord you trust.
Be ready to walk in the fear of the Lord that makes you tremble at His Word and rejoice to do His will. When the fear of God is strong, excuses weaken. Waxing stronger in obedience means cultivating a lifestyle of “Yes, Lord” before you know all the details. When you miss a prompting or disobey, be ready to repent quickly. Obedience is not about never failing; it is about never settling in disobedience. When you falter, return to the instruction, seek mercy, and begin again. Waxing stronger in obedience means shorter gaps between conviction, surrender, and action.
Action Steps: Today, pause and ask: “Lord, what was the last clear instruction You gave me that I left undone or delayed?” Write it down. Repent where necessary, and by grace, take one concrete step of obedience toward it today. Then identify one area (finances, relationships, ministry, habits) where God is calling you to a deeper yes.
Quote for the Day: “Obedience is the language of love. As you keep saying ‘yes’ to God, you will wax stronger in alignment and walk under an open heaven each day.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me and giving me Your commands as pathways of life. Deliver me from delay, excuses, and selective obedience. Soften my heart to Your voice and strengthen my will to follow promptly. Let my obedience this year open doors of favor, intimacy, and fruitfulness, and may my life bring pleasure to Your heart. In Your mighty name, Lord Jesus, Amen.
