Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Wednesday, January 14, 2026
Texts: Mark 10:35–45
Key Verse: Mark 10:45 (ESV) — “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Service is not a church department or event; it is both the attitude and posture of a heart shaped by the cross. You see, friends, God is deliberate about ensuring we wax very strong in all areas of our lives if we can only see whatHe is doing and simply join Him. As a follower of One who gave his life as a ransom for many, strength that is not poured out in service is selfishness. To wax stronger in service is to see greatness through the eyes of Christ: not as position and title, but from Christ's angle of towel and basin.
Service is not what you do when you are free; it is what you become when you are yielded. It is love in motion. God’s call to serve one another mirrors the example of Jesus. He totally gave his life. He washed the feet of those who would soon abandon Him. Waxing stronger in service this year means asking not only, “What can I receive?” but, “Whom can I lift?” It begins with you: from your home, in your relationship, in your local church, in your workplace—don't you only seek to be served. Pursue serving others like your Lord does. Do it until you wax strong in it, in small acts of kindness, unseen sacrifices, consistent reliability.
As you embrace the servant-heart of Christ, your pride will be challenged and your comfort zones stretched. To wax stronger in service is to lay down your right to always be noticed or appreciated. There are assignments that may never get pastoral coments or public applause but they make it to heaven's records. This year, service will require you to volunteer when it is inconvenient, to help those who cannot repay you, and to pour into those who may not say “thank you.” These are not wasted efforts; they are seeds in God’s hands.
Be ready to see every gift, opportunity, and promotion as a platform to serve more, not less. When discouragement comes because people do not reciprocate or recognize your sacrifice, remember that your Father who sees in secret will reward openly. When you feel weary, return to the One who served unto death and draw fresh strength. Waxing stronger in service means that love, not ego, dictates how far you are willing to go for others.
Action Steps: Today, pause and ask: “Lord, who around me needs my hands, my time, or my encouragement?” Write down one person in your family, church, and workplace to intentionally serve this week. Choose a specific act—a call, a visit, a gift, a task—and do it joyfully.
Quote for the Day: “Service is the true signature of greatness. As you stoop to lift others, you will wax stronger in love and look more like Jesus.” — (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for serving me with Your very life. Deliver me from selfish ambition and convenience Christianity. Give me a servant’s heart and willing hands. Let my service this year bring comfort to many and glory to Your name. In Your mighty name, Lord Jesus, Amen.
