Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, April 9, 2021
Today’s Text: John 12:20-33
Key Verse: John 12:21 (NIV) — “They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus.”
Since yesterday, God started redirecting us to the pathway of eschewing our unwholesome desires. He wants us to rather grow the righteous desire to seek the savior. The word of God is full of several examples of people who longed for God. Moses prayed God to show him His ways and teach him His laws. Queen Esther sought God when her people were soled for extermination in Persia. Hannah cried passionately for God at Shiloh. David’s soul pants for God as the deer pants for the waters. Daniel fasted for 21 days to seek the Lord. The 3 wiseman came all the way from the East to see Jesus. Zacchaeus, the tax-collector climbed the sycamore tree in Jericho to see Jesus.
These are people whose examples we must follow. And as for our few Greek brothers, we must learn from how they came along with others to Galilee to observe the Passover. We must know that such would have been mere religion. But these men came above religion. They came with the unusual thirst that only genuine encounter with God can quench. And therefore, they have become examples to us, today, that except we all come with a deep desire for genuine personal encounter and relationship with Jesus, we would be pursuing empty religion and vanity. Countless of religious people gather each day and week to observe religious “passovers;” that’s why they return the same. But few men who come with genuine desire to see the Lord truly find Him. “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Says the Lord in Jeremiah 29:13.
Quote for the Day: “There can be no genuine divine revival except men’s souls thirst for God. There is no signs nor any manifestations of wonders except we all truly find God.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord please help me to hunger and thirst for You. Help my craving for material things to decrease, and my craving for you to increase, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
