What About this Man?

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, April 26, 2021

Today’s Text: John 21:18-23

Key Verse: John 21:21 (ESV) — “When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?

There is no doubt about the enigmatic nature of God's dealing with mankind. That is why we often approach Him with so many questions in our hearts. The most religious of us still have some mysteries they wish would be unravelled. Unfortunately, God seems not to answer the question “why” from people. Why Jesus asked the question “why have you forsaken me,” no answer came from heaven. We all have questions about existence of evil under the government of a wise, holy, and loving God. We wonder why some loved ones whom we desire to have for much more time for their love for God, and dedication to Him; but who are taken away from us while we are still needing them. Sometimes, we find an escape from what would have been a devastating evil, but we still find it hard to understand why those evil ever existed.

Folks, we must strengthen ourselves in two facts from today's text: 1.) We are not alone. Apostle Peter is a man of like passion as we are. He also wrestled with the “why” or “why me” syndrome. He was tempted like we are to ask “why am I been bombarded when the other brother is simply walking away?” 2.) The wisdom and supremacy of God and His determinate counsel are unquestionable. There will always be many occurrences around us that will be very difficult to explain. Like why people go to groceries or conemas, and were hurried to their grave; or why school children are shot dead. Or why Boko Haram and herdmen are brutally matchetting innocent people. And of course, why devout worshippers in a church, during an ongoing worship are shot, or burned or beheaded. It's ok to ask Peter’s kind of questions, but we must not sin against God; and whether He speaks or not, we must still trust Him.

Quote for the Day: “God is His own interpreter; and secret things are His.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: O Lord, let Your will be done in my life, in Jesus's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
