Our Text: Acts 1:6-11
Key Verse: Acts 1:11 (KJV ): “Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.”
In this first chapter of Acts alone, we have 5 different emphasis of the literal visibility of Christ's ascension. This is sure enough to dismiss assumptions that the account is only figurative or symbolic. But we can hinge our hopes on the ascension and promised second advent of Jesus Christ, as personal and visible realities.
Why stand ye is a call us who look so forlorn in a troubled world, who need not lament that which is a blessing. Why stand ye is a direct Galilean dialectical idiom meaning why are you dispirited. All that is necessary on earth for your spiritual culture and well-being has been accomplished, and now He goes to prepare the place of your heavenly abode. Why stand ye when you already have been given His Spirit, the Comforter. Why stand ye when He has given you a commission to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature..." (Mark 16:15) Or how shall we “Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel mento come in” (Luke 14:2) if we stand here gazing.
Quote for the Day: “The disciples would like to erect three resting place on Olive, but the Christian call is never to stand gazing; we are to go into all the world.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Please teach us how to be people who stand against standing aloof on our mountains of experience when souls are perishing in the valleys of action, in Jesus name. Amen.
A Special Announcement: No Negotiation Night, the powerful interdenominational prayer vigil is two days time, this Friday, June 21, 2019 by 9pm. Pray. Plan. Prepare. Publicize. Partake!
