Today’s Text: Joshua 21:43-45
Key Verse: Joshua 21:44 (NIV): “The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hands.”

Rest has been defined as peace, ease or refreshment despite presence or in absentia of pain, or trouble. The Bible’s theological reference of/to rest is highly estimated so much that its theme runs all through Scripture, beginning with the creation story. God is the author of rest, and He is the first to demonstrate the significance and practice of rest after working for six days. Therefore, rest is God’s will for us; and its spiritual and physical benefits are also profound. Naturally, when we slow down and get quiet, we grow in our spiritual relationship with God — which helps us flourish in graces such as wisdom, inner and outer sobriety and knowledge.
Over the generations, believers’ strongest opposition to their divinely apportioned rest has always been enemy’s schemes against them. But we have been promised a life of constant and continued unaltered rest, regardless. Each of us must bear in mind that Canaanites (or any enemy) may not have been in absolute subjection to Joshua, the original recipient of this promise — they may seem not to be in subjection to us. But all those who oppose or rise up against him to trouble him and tamper with his peace were delivered into his hands, and subdued. That is the assurance we are given while we live in a battered and troubled world. Throughout both Testaments God’s conquest of all the foes of His chosen people is already perfected — a case of an "ex parte Dei" triumph. Therefore, as a Christian your warfare is accomplished and you can find and enjoy rest.
Quote for the Day: “A noisy and restless spirit struggles and wobbles but a quiet soul gathers strength.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please give me rest on every side, let my past sorrows turn to joy and mourning unto feasting. Though my ancestors fought battles on every side, my God shall give me rest on every side — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
