Today’s Text: Isaiah 41:8-14
Key Verses: Isaiah 41:13 (ESV) — “For I, the LORD your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
No matter what challenges us today, we can hear God speak tenderness to us in this text. He cares about our peace of mind, and sends us those life-giving words. O how He sends them each morning and moments. The LORD'S mercies and that we are not consumed, because his compassions are new every morning: great is His faithfulness toward us. He (God) is aware of all that we face. He knows just how the enemy wants us to think thoughts of failure, frustration and be overtaken by fear. But if you are careful to see how the Lord demonstrates His love towards us when we are weak, I can make bold to tell you this: you will find true rest of mind. See how He says, I will strengthen you. That's what He does in our times of need. When we are in want of true friends: He says, I will help you. When it looks like we are about to fall, fail and falter, He says, I will uphold you with my right hand of righteousness. When we face real enemies, that strive with us, and seek our ruin, and we feel so little, weak, despised and trampled on every side like the worm Jacob. Let this word of God today give us rest of mind. He says, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.” That is, it is I, not another, that is helping you or that will help you.
My friend, we are all not passing through the best of times right now; but when help is on the way, people can breathe for rest. The only tight and nutty nut is: we need to put our trust in God. He can not help us unless we trust him to do so. The scripture admonition to “fear not” is a call to turn our attention away from the problem unto the Lord who is the one that helps us. The situations may look so bad and terrifying but with the One who helps us, we are confident that all things are possible. He was not bragging when He said, “For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” No! But He was giving us some very strong reason to have rest of mind. He is helping us put all the problems in perspective. Remember, our Lord said, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” (John 14:1) O how He cares that we have rest of mind. Beside giving us peace, which transcends all understanding to guard our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:7), He even told us not to worry about tomorrow (Matthew 6:34).
Quote for the Day: ”We position ourselves to enjoy the peace of the Lord; not just when we hear His “fear not, ” but when we obey that voice of love, leave our worries behind and entrust our hands in the hands of God.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for the peace you give to calm my heart and troubled heart. I ask for strength to trust you to help me heal every stress, in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
