Renewal and Fresh Starts

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Friday, May 1, 2026

Today’s Text: Isaiah 43:16–21

Key Verse: Isaiah 43:19 (ESV) — “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

God is not confined to our past experiences, failures, or even former victories. He is a God of renewal, constantly at work to bring forth fresh beginnings out of dry places. While it is important to remember His faithfulness, He cautions us not to become trapped in what has been. Dwelling excessively on the past—whether in regret or nostalgia—can blind us to the new thing He is doing now.

In today’s text, the Lord speaks to a people who had seen His mighty acts before, yet He calls them to shift their focus: “Do not remember the former things… behold, I am doing a new thing.” This is not a dismissal of His past works, but an invitation to greater revelation. God’s renewal often comes in unexpected ways—streams in deserts, pathways in wilderness seasons. What seems barren and unproductive can become the very ground where new life emerges.

Fresh starts with God are not merely about external change, but inward transformation. He renews our minds, restores our strength, and revives our purpose. Sometimes, renewal requires letting go—of old mindsets, past hurts, expired seasons, or even methods that once worked but no longer serve His current purpose. Holding on too tightly to yesterday can prevent us from stepping into today’s grace.

The promise of renewal also carries responsibility: “Do you not perceive it?” Spiritual sensitivity is required to discern what God is birthing. When we walk closely with Him, our eyes are opened to recognize new doors, new directions, and new assignments. Renewal is not automatic—it is embraced through faith, obedience, and willingness to move forward with God.

Child of God, this is your season for a fresh start. No wilderness is too dry, no situation too far gone for God to renew. What He begins anew carries His power to sustain it. Let go of what was, and step boldly into what is unfolding.

Action Steps: Ask the Lord to reveal any area where you are holding onto the past in a way that hinders your growth. Write down one step you can take today toward a fresh start—spiritually, emotionally, or practically. Create space for renewal by engaging intentionally in prayer, the Word, and quiet reflection, allowing God to speak new direction into your life.

Let Us Pray: Lord, You are the God of new beginnings. I thank You that You are doing a new thing in my life, even when I cannot yet see it fully. Help me to release the past and embrace Your fresh work in me. Renew my mind, revive my spirit, and redirect my steps according to Your will. Let rivers flow in every dry place of my life, and make me a vessel of Your renewing power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
