Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, May 7, 2022
Today Text: Proverbs 23:19-25
Key Verse: Proverbs 23:23 (KJV): “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.”
In a generation without conscience, an age of delusion and falsities, we are reminded to expend all we could to get hold of God’s truth. This scripture does not mean to say that truth is for sale; for it comes from God, and He (God) gives to every man liberally, without money or price. But it’s a reminder that God wants us to cherish truth as our treasure and pearl of great price. If you ever try to stand up for what is just and true, you will understand the cost is real, reckless, and ruthless. But God’s truth is all we need to be wise towards God.
Therefore, whatever this costs us, the wise teacher says: we must make sure we get a hold of it. God’s truth is all we need to guide our hearts in his way. In this godly idiom, to buy the truth is to do everything humanly possible to learn at God’s feet. And to “sell it not” is to protect God’s truth from being sucked up by our craving for pleasures, honors, riches, or any other desirable thing in this world. Just like we guard our hearts with all diligence; we must treasure God’s truth and not forsake it for any worldly advantage. Let us, therefore, spare no pains, no distance, no alternative forgone, and no actual physical cost or loss to get the truth of God.

Prayer: Dear Lord, genuine wisdom, instruction and insight come from You, Lord. Please fill my heart daily with deepened desire to pursue Your truth — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
