Today’s Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, March 26, 2019
Today’s Text: Proverbs 22:22-29
Key Verse: Proverbs 22:28 (ESV): “Do not move the ancient landmark that your fathers have set.”
While our key verse clearly points to division of inheritance by which lands were carefully marked out for each family of Israel in which each of them were commanded not to remove their neighbor’s landmark, which they of old time have set in their inheritance (Deuteronomy 19:14); it has also become a proverbial phrase usually applied to signify any serious departure from cultural heritage or rectitude.
Unfortunately, ours is a generation that moves against norms. We excite and incite ourselves against anything called landmark. We prefer to leave whatever is morally correct and godly behind. Being wise in our own eyes, we think we’ve outgrown the old ways. We claim they are old fashioned and argue that they are hindrances rather than blessings to us.
In a progressive manner, we continue to remodel our moral, cultural and godly heritages. We are comfortable with anything especially as far as it is against God. O what a generation is ours, which opposes religious teachings and seek convenient doctrines! We have so much, and yet are marked by emptiness. But we can be grateful for this scripture through which God is calling us to a solemn return today. And if we are, let us retrace the ancient landmarks of the faith once delivered to the saints.
Let us retrace our steps to truth. Let us go back to God and restore every shifted grounds that have made us rebel against God. Let us return to the land marks of God’s word, the culture of “in God we trust,” the heritage of natural love, marriage and sexuality, of grace, of conversion and regeneration, of brotherly love, and of justice, truth and fairness.
Quote for the Day:*“We teach history, yet we are so disconnected with it’s lessons so much that we are deeper, today, in the errors of yesterday so much that tomorrow already promises us a repetition of the past.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Turn thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old (Lamentations 5:21). In Jesus mighty name. Amen.
